Teaching your children to swim is very important to our YMCA. It is a skill that will be used for a lifetime. Values, education and character development is also very important to us. We believe it is a way to put our Christian mission into action. As a value to our program we will be introducing quick and simple lessons/activities into each class that promotes positive values.
Parent and Child- Ages 6 months - 3 years
The primary objective is to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water. Clases are designed to allow children to have fun in the water while parents guide them to learn new aquatic skills.
Thursday 10:00–10:30 a.m.
Saturday 9:00–9:30 a.m.
Preschool Ages 3-5 years

This program offers children their first experience in the pool without parental guidance. Students will learn to put their face in the water,swim 2-3 feet, and jump in the water and swim back to the wall unassisted by an instructor.
Tuesday 5:30–6:00 p.m.
Thursday 9:00–9:30 a.m.
Saturday 9:00–9:30 a.m.
Preschool Ages 3-5 years
This is a readiness class for Starfish that will teach the students how to float on their front and back as well as a variation of the backstroke and front crawl stroke. Proper use of a floation device will also be taught.
Tuesday 5:30–6:00 p.m.
Thursday 9:30–10:00 a.m.
Saturday 9:00–9:30 a.m.
Preschool Ages 3-5 years
This class teaches endurance and refines basic swimming skills. Some skills introduced are swimming on the back, jumping into the deep end of the pool, and learning the technique of rotary breathing and backstroke.
Tuesday 5:30–6:00 p.m.
Thursday 9:30–10:00 a.m.
Saturday 9:00–9:30 a.m.
Ages 6-13 years
Basic swimming skills are taught in this class. Floating, kicking, and going under the water are a few of these skills. Children must swim one length of the pool to progress to Guppy. Children will build confidence through basic skill development.
Tuesday 6:15–7:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:45–10:30 a.m.
Ages 6-13 years
Children will gain endurance and refine the front crawl with rotary breathing and back-stroke. They will also learn survival skills such as treading water and floating. Other skills introduced will be the front dive and underwater recovery at 3 1/2 feet.
Tuesday 6:15–7:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:45–10:30 a.m.
Ages 6-13 years
This class is for the advanced swimmers. The skills taught include survival floating, treading water, freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and turns.
Tuesday 6:15–7:00 p.m.
Saturday 9:45–10:30 a.m.
Ages 14 and up
This is a great class for adults that want to learn basic swimming skills or to improve on swimming strokes. Come join the fun!!

YMCA Wavemakers Swim Team holds their sign-up and first
practice on Sept. 20 at 6:00pm. All abilities & ages up to 18 are welcome, but must be able to swim the length of the pool. The Season runs Sept.—March. Practices are Mon. & Wed. 6-8:30pm and Friday 5:30-7:30pm. Youth must be a YMCA of Steuben County Member, $54 USA Fees, Program Fee $200.00 (payment plan available), Swim Suit $35. Cruise Liner Aerobics (No impact water aerobics)
Program participants are led through a series of specifically designed activities that with the help of the water's buoyancy and resistance can help improve joint flexibility and muscle tone. Specifically designed for people with arthritis. Instructors are certified through the Arthritis Foundation. Monday–Friday 12:00–12:50 p.m.
Row Boat Aerobics (medium impact water aerobics class)
This class is intended for people who are interested in stretching, cardiovascular conditioning and muscular endurance. This class is great for beginners, pregnant women, and seniors. Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 10:00–10:45 a.m.
Sail Boat Aerobics (deep water aerobics)
A great workout adaptable for all fitness levels that uses fun and intense combos in a high impact workout in the deep section of the pool. Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00–8:45 a.m.
Speed Boat Aerobics (high impact aerobic class)
A fast pace water fitness class for all ages that will develop muscle strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. Monday, Wednesday & Friday 8:00–8:50 a.m.
(Please note the evening 4:30 p.m. M & TH Speed Boat Aerobics class will not be available during the summer months beginning May 27. It will resume after Labor Day)
Calling All Troops
Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownies. Bring your scouts to the YMCA to earn their aquatic badges. Please phone Samantha Porter to make your reservations today.
Rate: $3.00 per participant Minimum $25.00 - can be from different groups
This program is a water orientation class designed for individuals with special needs. All staff is trained in CPR and First Aid. It is requested that specific information regarding the individual's special need(s) be brought in so the staff is better prepared to accommodate them. Communication between the parent and instructor is essential for the success of the program.

Water Safety Skills (age 6 and up)
This class is for people that are interested in basic water safety. Skills taught will be reaching the throwing assists, survival strokes, boating safety, and treading water. Contact Samantha Porter for more information at (260) 668-3607.
